| December 16th – Broadland Bowmen Christmas Shoot | ||||||||||||||
| Report produced by David Arnold | ||||||||||||||
| Well another good attendance! The bookings were very high and I had to close the books at 146 although still allowing a little space for what I call my regulars. The final bookings went up to 154 and being close to the shortest day I was getting worried that they would not all get around in the daylight. | ||||||||||||||
| However, about a week before the shoot cancellations started to come in, what with all the colds and flu that were about, and I thank everyone who let me know. This left us with 132 on the books at the start of the day. I must admit, however, I was disappointed with 17 no shows on the day which meant I had to do a lot of reorganising of the groups just before the start. I must thank one couple for turning up even though he had a very bad cold and was hoping to shoot. He thought the better of it and offered to pay and then go home. The offer was refused with thanks, none the less thank you Del and Annie for the offer. | ||||||||||||||
| We had a very good day weather wise, cold but sunny and dry. Steve Bould and his brother Chris Bould with the help of Peter Mundford did the course. It was 36 targets consisting of 33 3D’s and 2 paper faces and one special made by Chris, which was a cut out of a French Knight. | ||||||||||||||
| As there was a large booking it was decided that to get them round quicker we would only have a max of 2 arrows, using only the red and the white, but still big game scoring. Then to make sure there were no hold ups all the targets had a backstop and we had 10 marshals and 4 metal detectors on the course all day to keep them all moving. It worked as they were all finished and on their way home by 3.15pm. | ||||||||||||||
| Before the prize giving we gave Host Spalding a bottle of scotch for all the work he has done for the club over the years as Chairman now that he has stepped down from the post. We had our usual free raffle drawn on the scorecards then the prize giving. For 1 st there was the large Xmas pudding then smaller one’s for 2 nd and third, with the option of having a cyclamen instead. We always have plenty left over so that everyone has something to take home with them. Some new faces went home early so they missed out on a pudding or cyclamen so hopefully next year they will stay to the end and get something. We had a donation of some sweets and mugs to put in where we wanted which we accepted from David Hatton. | ||||||||||||||
| So to finish with I must thank all the members that worked so hard on the day, all the help made it go very smoothly and I must also thank the shops that came; Tony Western from the Archery Company, Graham from Clickers and Volka with his stall. | ||||||||||||||
